Frost Damage to Bricks

The opposite photograph is from a property in Biddulph showing damage caused to brickwork beneath the damp proof course.

The damp in the bricks has risen to below the dpc.

Frost has frozen the water and caused the brick to expand and spall/shale off the brick face. This brick is what is called "frost blown".

It does not cause structural failure unless it continues eating away at the depth of the brick. Replace if greater than 25mm deep.
